关于Khepera名字的来源
古埃及人把早晨的太阳叫“Khepera”,中午的为“Rā”，还有傍晚的就叫“Atum”，并且把在平坦的地面上拼命转动粪球的甲虫们侍奉为“太阳神”。关于太阳神的起源来自于一个古老的传说：最早在广阔的地平线上出现了“Khepera”,接着翱翔于太阳高照的天空，即“Rā” 的形态，不久又以“Atum”的样子潜入了一艘在地中海旅行的船上。 “Atum”附着在船的缆绳上，直到夜里十一时时，海面出现了一条大蛇把“Atum”给吞了，这时，太阳神变作了那种甲虫穿出大蛇的腹部，飞向刚刚出现的海上日出，所以这种转动粪球的甲虫在埃及被视为一种图腾加以崇拜，可在中国它们却被称为“屎壳郎”。当时的人们无法观察到甲虫从粪球里产的卵发育而成的情况，就把甲虫的自然发生联系起甲虫支配着太阳的运行，这种虫也即是“Khepera”，“Rā”，“Atum”的化身，从它而受到了人们的尊敬，于是给它起了一个名字“Scarab”，“Scarab”在古埃及的语言里是能呼唤一切生命万能的象征，“屎壳郎”的英文名也叫“Scarab beetle”，另一个中文名也就是“圣甲虫”。
